At the Voin-Expo 2024 exhibition, we met with representatives of the Special Experimental Design Laboratory (abbreviated as SOKL) and immediately established a collaboration that will be interesting and beneficial to everyone. For us, because the topic of camouflage and its application is very interesting to us. They do it because it's the right thing to do to publicize such a company. Because they're modest, despite their professionalism, the general public doesn't know much about them. To be honest, I learned about them from a third party literally by chance a couple of days before the exhibition, which surprised me greatly, as camouflage is a topic of great interest to us, yet somehow we'd overlooked such a company. The topic of personal camouflage is highly debated, and people have long been divided into two camps. One camp is the "we need to camouflage everyone, issue everyone a thermal imaging suit, dress tanks in large thermal imaging suits, apply aquaprints with Multicam to every piece of hardware, etc." The other camp is the "witnesses of the almighty thermal imaging" camp, believing that with the advent of thermal imaging, the "camouflage" section of a combat army's support system can be eliminated. The truth, however, isn't even in the middle, but rather the other way around. Yes, the introduction of the Teplak has changed the combat situation. But despite this, 70% of targets are still detected by simple visual observation. While individual camouflage isn't as important for infantry, which spends long periods in the same positions, because it's not the individual infantryman who's being detected, but the entire position, camouflage plays a crucial role for reconnaissance, sabotage, and special forces units, as "not being detected" is the key to their survival. Therefore, these units are the primary users of such devices. They use them in various configurations – some limit themselves to Vape Hoods – to be less visible while prone. Others use them with trousers, leaving the equipment section – the chest or waist – exposed. Some use a full camouflage kit—camouflage suits, helmet covers, weapon wraps, camouflaged backpacks, etc. All of this is combined with painted weapons and a host of other preventative measures. The goal is the same: to be less visible to the enemy. At the same time, these same units also camouflage their positions, concealing dug "cracks," small trenches, ammunition depots, launchers, mounted grenade launchers/machine guns, and reconnaissance assets. For this purpose, they also use camouflage devices such as nets and capes. In short, to claim that the advent of thermal imaging has rendered this topic obsolete is foolish and fundamentally wrong. This is primarily because a thermal imaging device needs to be aimed somewhere to see anything. And on a front as long as the current one—1,500+ kilometers—this is somewhat difficult. And a thermal imaging device, even when aimed in the right direction, is not a panacea. Because it doesn't magically show where the target is – it shows the temperature difference. If your thermal radiation is blocked by a screen – the same mesh fabric with foliage sewn onto it – the thermal imager simply won't see you. This applies both to observation from the horizon and from above. Therefore, camouflage and the means to ensure it are still relevant today and will be in use for many, many years to come.
