We traveled from Peru to Chile with one goal: to try the famous piure, one of the strongest and most intensely flavored shellfish in the world. The piure is a very unique edible marine animal: on the outside it looks like a rock, but inside it has a deep red/orange color and a very potent flavor. It lives attached to rocks in coastal areas of Chile and Peru. It is known for its strong flavor, often associated with iodine and minerals from the sea. In Chile, the piure is part of the traditional seafood cuisine. For many, it's a delicacy; for others, a real challenge due to its intense smell and taste. In this video, we cross the border to learn about it, try it, and discover if it truly deserves its reputation as one of the strongest shellfish in the world.
