In 1923, Wilhelm Albert founded what was then "Sauerstoffwerke AG" – now the "Westfalen Group" – and the first Westfalen gas station opened in Münster in 1927. Today, these gas stations can be found throughout the region, recognizable by the white Westphalian horse that adorns the company logo. In addition to selling fuel, WestfalenGas has also been bottled in Münster since 1954 and produced in Hörstel for use in industries such as pharmaceuticals and food processing.
