Inherited Knowledge: Family, the Catholic Church & the Bible | An Introduction to My New Book What do we inherit before we ever speak our first words? This video is an introduction to one of the central themes of my upcoming book: inherited knowledge—the beliefs, habits, values, traditions, and ways of perceiving the world that are passed from one generation to the next. In the book, I explore this subject from three perspectives: • The Family – How children learn through observation, relationships, attachment, language, routines, and the atmosphere of the home. • The Catholic Church – How the faith is handed on through Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, the sacraments, the witness of the saints, and the beauty of Christian life. • The Bible – What God reveals about wisdom, formation, generational influence, and the renewal of the mind through Christ. Along the way, I also reflect on how we perceive reality. Although we live in a three-dimensional world, the image formed on our eyes is two-dimensional. Our brains interpret depth through light, movement, perspective, and experience. In many ways, we do not simply see reality—we interpret it. This raises a deeper question: How much of the way we think is inherited? How much have we learned from our families, our culture, and our faith without ever stopping to reflect on it? As artificial intelligence rapidly transforms our world, it is easy to become absorbed by technological developments, constant information, and unsettling news. While these developments deserve thoughtful attention, they should not become the centre of our attention. The Christian life offers another path. Rather than living in fear or anxiety, we are invited to seek a relationship with our Heavenly Father through prayer, contemplation, Sacred Scripture, and the sacramental life of the Church. It is there that we receive wisdom, peace, discernment, and hope—gifts that no technology can produce and no algorithm can replace. This video is only the beginning of that conversation. At the end, I leave you with one simple invitation. Perhaps we have become a culture that relies almost entirely on what we can see. Yet some of the most important realities cannot be seen at all. Love cannot be seen. Truth cannot be seen. Wisdom cannot be seen. The voice of God cannot be seen. Neither can sound. We cannot see sound, yet we know it is real because we hear it. Perhaps that is why Jesus so often said: “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 11:15) As you continue watching these videos and, God willing, reading this book, I invite you to use not only your eyes, but also your ears. Listen more carefully—to children, to those around you, to the wisdom of the Church, to Sacred Scripture, and above all, to the quiet voice of our Heavenly Father. May this series encourage us not merely to acquire more information, but to grow in wisdom, wonder, and communion with Christ.
