Inherited Knowledge - Family Part I
Inherited Knowledge – Family An Introduction to My New Book What do children inherit long before they understand words? In this introductory video, I explore the powerful role of the family as a child’s first school—a place where values, beliefs, behaviours, emotions, and ways of seeing the world are quietly passed from one generation to the next. Children do not simply learn from what we teach. They learn from who we are. This video is the first in a series introducing one of the central themes of my upcoming book: Inherited Knowledge. Throughout the series, I explore this subject from three perspectives: • The Family • The Catholic Church • The Bible Together, these three dimensions shape the way we understand ourselves, others, and ultimately God. I also reflect on the difference between seeing and perceiving. Although we live in a three-dimensional world, the image formed on our eyes is two-dimensional. Our minds interpret what we see using memory, experience, perspective, and understanding. In the same way, our perception of life is influenced by what we have inherited from our families, our culture, and our faith. As artificial intelligence continues to transform our world, it is easy to become consumed by constant news, endless information, and technological progress. While these developments are important, they should not distract us from what is eternal. The Christian life invites us to turn our attention towards something far greater—a relationship with our Heavenly Father. Through silence, prayer, Sacred Scripture, and the sacramental life of the Catholic Church, we discover a wisdom that cannot be generated by technology. There we receive peace, hope, discernment, and a deeper understanding of reality that helps us navigate an increasingly complex world without being overwhelmed by fear or anxiety. At the end of this video, I leave you with a simple invitation. Perhaps we have spent too much of our lives relying only on our eyes. Instead, begin using your ears more. We cannot see sound, yet we know it is real. Likewise, some of the greatest realities in life cannot be seen—they must be heard, received, and contemplated. As Jesus said: “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 11:15) Thank you for watching. I hope this introduction inspires you to reflect more deeply on the knowledge we inherit, the wisdom we seek, and the voice of God who continues to speak today. May God bless you.
