HOTEL ESTÉREO EP. 09 | Ramones, Foo Fighters y New York Dolls

In this ninth episode of Hotel Estéreo, we open Room 71 to travel to New York and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ramones' debut album, released on April 23, 1976. A record of barely half an hour, with fourteen songs and a sound that helped solidify punk as a distinct style. We revisit the origins of Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy Ramone, the role of CBGB in the development of that scene, the musical context against which they reacted, and the importance of an album that, while not a commercial smash, paved the way for punk, hardcore, indie, and much of the alternative rock that followed. We take a look at Your Favorite Toy, the new album from Foo Fighters, discuss Editors' return with "Call It In" and their upcoming dates in Spain, celebrate Seguridad Social's comeback with "Por todas partes te veo," and close with the Hidden Bottle, this time dedicated to Chalk, a Belfast band that blends post-punk and electronica and has just released their first album, Crystalpunk. To close out the show, in the Check-out segment, a perfect recommendation to extend the vibe of this episode: New York Dolls, the self-titled debut album by the New York Dolls, released in 1973. A key record for understanding the more rebellious and electric New York scene that helped pave the way for the later emergence of the Ramones and punk.
