NYS rolls out programs to include youth with disabilities

Somewhere in Kenya, an 18-year-old deaf youth sits at home, their family uncertain about what the future holds. Job opportunities are scarce and Communication often reduced to gestures and guesswork. For many families like theirs, deafness still feels like a life sentence to silence, dependence, and exclusion. But at the National Youth Service Paramilitary Academy, a different story is unfolding. Deaf recruits are breaking barriers, defying stereotypes, and rewriting expectations. They are leading drills, holding key leadership positions, and commanding respect from their peers, transforming not just their own lives but also perceptions of disability within the disciplined forces.
