Workers' Day | President Ramaphosa abandons Cosatu's May Day rally as event descends into chaos
President Cyril Ramaphosa had to abandon Cosatu's Workers' Day rally in the North West when a section of the crowd disrupted the event. Workers said to be from Sibanye Stillwater's gold operations moved towards the stage and prevented the president from being heard. Striking workers at Sibanye are on strike to demand an a R1 000 increase per year. The company is currently offering R800, plus an annual R50 increase in the living out allowance.
