Built Not Broken | Breaking Off the Victim Mentality

This Sunday, we tackled a hard but necessary conversation: victim mentality. The truth is, every one of us has experienced hurt—betrayal, rejection, abuse, disappointment, mistreatment, or heartbreak. And if we’re honest, we’ve all also hurt someone else at some point. That’s the reality of living in a fallen world. But while we can’t always determine what happens to us, we can determine our response. We talked about three ways situations happen in life: -Things that happen FOR us — moments where God’s hand is moving, even when we don’t understand it. -Things that happen TO us — painful moments we didn’t choose, didn’t deserve, and didn’t ask for. -Things we did to ourselves — our own decisions, mistakes, and choices that led us into difficult places. And here’s the good news: none of these disqualify us from God’s grace. Through Moses, we saw that even in poor decisions, God still meets us and gives purpose. Through Joseph, we saw that even when others intended harm, God can redeem the story for good. A victim mentality keeps us trapped in blame, hopelessness, defensiveness, and pain-based identity. It builds walls so high that we stop God from doing the healing work He wants to do in us. But hear this clearly: What happened to you may be part of your story, but it is not your identity. You were a victim of it—you are not it. Healing doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t hurt. Healing means refusing to let pain define your future. God is still in the business of restoring, redeeming, and rebuilding what was broken. 📖 Scriptures: Exodus 2, Exodus 14, Genesis 37 & Genesis 50:20 🔔 Stay Connected: LINKTREE: https://linktr.ee/Kogclermont CHURCH CENTER APP: https://kogclermont.churchcenter.com/...
