Watch your mouth

This week in our "Grow Up" series, we learned that one of the greatest indicators of spiritual maturity isn't how long you've been in church, how many Scriptures you can quote, or how passionately you worship. It's your mouth. James 3:2 teaches that if we can control our tongue, we demonstrate spiritual maturity. Why? Because our words reveal what's really in our hearts. 🔹 Mature believers understand that words carry power. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." (Proverbs 18:21) 🔹 Mature believers speak God's will, not merely their wishes. Like Ezekiel in the Valley of Dry Bones, maturity means learning not to speak until God speaks. 🔹 The Holy Spirit manifests what God authorizes. The miracle wasn't in Ezekiel's opinion—it was in his agreement with God's Word. 🔹 Mature believers use their words to build what God is building. Our words should impart grace, encouragement, faith, and life—not division, gossip, fear, or offense. 🔹 What you continually speak shapes what you eventually become. The twelve spies all saw the same giants, but only two spoke faith. Different words. Different spirit. Different outcome. Spiritual maturity is not learning how to get God to agree with you. It is learning how to agree with God.
