Mom Tries To Intervene With Baby Playing With Orangutan Dad 🦧😉 Then Gives Up ! #babyorangutan

Infant Orangutan Rufus at Blackpool Zoo has developed a strong bond with his dad Kawan In this video he tirelessly tries to get Kawan's attention as he bounces around on the ropes in front of his big alpha dad! Then at last Kawan checks to see if mom is around, then pulls his his baby son towards him, and while gently holding him,m he starts to groom him. Rufus loves the attention from dad, who is so gentle with him and clearly loves the time with his little boy. Mother Summer, however is slightly naturally cautious, and comes over to the boys with a warning pout ! She keeps a close eye on them and Kawan takes note, moving away from Rufus. However Rufus has other plans to be with dad, and soon makes his way over to Kawan again! Mother Summer gives up as she is satisfied with the gentle interaction Rufus spends most of his time close to mom Summer, but as he grows and becomes more independent of mom he wants more time with dad. This is not natural behaviour, in the wild male orangutan have no interaction with their offspring However in captivity, males are increasingly showing interest in their kids, and interacting with them more and forming close bonds, as the social dynamics and shared spaces are different to that of the wild. In most cases the males in captivity are gentle around their offspring, with mothers allowing them time with the babies as they get older, while still keeping a close watch, and staying near 🦧😉 Recorded 2026 Blackpool Zoo's Orangutan family are part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) The mother of Rufus is Summer and the father is Kawan, who moved to Blackpool Zoo in 2022 from Apenheul Zoo in the Netherlands and was an instant hit with the resident female orangutans Cherie Summer and Jingga He came to the zoo as part of the European Endangered Species program after his much loved predecessor Ramon was moved to a new group in Germany where he has just become a new father himself Kawan was specially selected by experts to join the female group at Blackpool Zoo and has settled into his new role as alpha male orangutan very well There are currently 6 Bornean Orangutans in one family group at Blackpool Zoo consisting of adult females Cherie Summer and Jingga , Alpha Male Kawan , baby Jarang and baby Rufus Baby Orangutan Alert And Taking In His Surroundings 🦧😍 Thanks for watching, please Like, Comment and Subscribe!
