Wearmouth Stem Post renewal Part One

At great expense, we get around to the renewal of the Wearmouth Stem Post. After lots of preparation we start this major task. The solid oak wood started off at 3.6 metres long and about 25cm square. This was shaped in our workshop by our highly skilled carpenters using the original damaged one as a pattern. This has progressed slowly due to other priorities but now the better weather is with us, we decided now was the time to get started. After much modifications to the scaffolding to gain access to the bow of the boat we were ready to commence. Video created on 10th June 2026 with recording/editing by Keith Holman, other cameras & drone Nick Simpson. All volunteers with Sunderland Maritime Heritage in addition to recording in no particular order, were Bob Crompton, Charlie Hastie, Steve Wright, John Marshall, Martin Wilson, Peter Aitken, Morris Adamson, George McCann and Rob Wright. This is a charity run 100% by volunteers with the aim of preserving our local maritime heritage.
