Morton Feldman - Piece for Four Pianos
Feldman's 'Piece for Four Pianos' (1957), played by John Tilbury, Philip Thomas, Catherine Laws & Mark Knoop. The pianists play the first chord together, but then make their way through the single page score at their own pace, so the timing / placing of each gesture is open. This recording was one of two takes made in 2014 for the double CD 'Two Pianos and other works 1953-1969', which was released on Another Timbre in 2015. A different take was selected for the album, but this realisation was kept and is now going to be released as part of a 4-disc box set of John Tilbury's playing: 'At home - domestic and archive recordings', which features works by many of Tilbury's favourite composers. The box set will be released in July 2026. www.anothertimbre.com
