Measuring Time in Morton Feldman's Late Music--Jeremy Tatar (MTSMA 2020)
This video explores Morton Feldman’s rhythmic materials from a set-theory perspective. It was originally intended for presentation in this format at the 2020 annual meeting of the Music Theory Society of the Mid-Atlantic (MTSMA), in Lexington, Kentucky, which was re-scheduled due to COVID-19. For more details about the online edition of this conference, visit http://www.musictheorymidatlantic.org.... The music-theory vibe of this presentation is pretty "nitty-gritty," but suggests some interesting and potentially rewarding ways of thinking about rhythmic relationships that would be applicable to a wide variety of musics. The handout for the presentation (including the bibliography) can be found here: https://pdfhost.io/v/jGADwn6kY_TATAR_... The script for the presentation can be found here: https://pdfhost.io/v/K3cJ0rMFs_TATAR_... Send me an email (address listed within the video) if you would like to talk more--I'm always stoked for that. Jeremy Tatar (June 2020)
