Options Delta: What They Don't Teach You In Finance Class
Delta is the most versatile Greek in options trading and also the most misunderstood. Finance classes teach it one way. Actual traders use it two other ways far more often. Jim Schultz breaks down all three in episode 8 of Where Do I Start. At trade entry, delta is a probability estimate telling you the approximate chance that a strike expires in the money. Over the life of a position, delta is a share equivalent telling you how much directional exposure you are actually carrying. The textbook definition, how much the option price moves per dollar in the stock, is the one traders use least. All three are explained with live examples on Apple in the tastytrade platform, including how delta changes as time passes and as options move in and out of the money. 📊 tastylive: https://www.tastylive.com/ 📰 Get Tom's pre-market analysis every morning: https://www.tastylive.com/newsletters 📘 FREE Options Strategy Guide: https://tinyurl.com/bp9ms763 📱 Follow tastylive on X: https://x.com/tastyliveshow Chapters 0:00 Why delta is the most important Greek 1:00 Use one: option price move explained 3:00 Use two: delta as a probability estimate 5:00 Use three: delta as share equivalent 8:00 Live Apple options chain walkthrough 11:00 OTM deltas shrink over time, ITM deltas grow 15:00 What classrooms teach vs what traders actually use #OptionsDelta #OptionsGreeks #OptionsTrading #JimSchultz #tastylive #WhereDoIStart #OptionsForBeginners #OptionsEducation tastylive is a real financial network, producing hours of live programming every day.
