El Mundo Desde el Sur 24JUL2026: VENEZUELA SE LEVANTA CON FORTALEZA Y COHESIÓN NACIONAL
On July 24th, Venezuela not only commemorated the 243rd anniversary of the birth of Simón Bolívar, the Liberator, but also still vividly remembers the double earthquake that struck seven states in the central region. One month after this catastrophe, which left a large number of dead and caused severe damage to infrastructure, the national government, the people, and international solidarity at various levels have played a vital role in assisting affected families and contributing to reconstruction efforts. This July 24, 2026, marks exactly one month since the two earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, shook the north-central part of the country with just 39 seconds between them. From the early hours, under the slogan "Venezuela Reborn," the Venezuelan people were called to unite to overcome this adversity. The public response was decisive: residents of areas like Catia La Mar and Caraballeda organized human chains to remove rubble with basic tools, managing to rescue thousands of people. Among the first government decisions was the declaration of a state of emergency. The public and private healthcare network was expanded, international humanitarian aid was received, and the Venezuelan government demanded the lifting of coercive measures against the country given the level of destruction caused. To date, official figures reflect a far-reaching operational deployment. Guest: Manuel Carrero, Historian
