This man managed to mark the history of Campina Grande as one of the city's most acclaimed and beloved mayors. Almost a folkloric figure, a man of agricultural roots and a great entrepreneurial vision. Let's summarize the biography of this man who was one of Paraíba's greatest political leaders, despite lacking academic or intellectual training, but possessing an unparalleled sensitivity to public management. I will focus more on his work as a municipal manager. Severino Bezerra Cabral was the son of Salustiano Bezerra Cabral and Joaquina Barbosa Cabral. He was born in Umbuzeiro, a city that has given us so many important citizens, such as former president Epitácio Pessoa, another president, but this time state president, João Pessoa, and, of course, the great sage Assis Chateaubriand, also known as Chatô, who was also called the "King of Brazil," owner of a veritable communications empire. It's worth noting that he left Umbuzeiro as a young man, before he was 20, in a hurry, facing problems, disagreements, and even death threats. Cabral was born at the very end of the 19th century, on December 4, 1897. The fact is that, like many people from cities in the region, in the early 1920s, he came to live in Campina Grande, which at the time had a reputation as the perfect city for success in life, the largest population center in the interior of the Northeast. And, indeed, he prospered here, becoming a major entrepreneur, immediately becoming a pioneer in the automobile trade with one of the first dealerships in the state, Chevrolet S. B. Cabral e Cia. He was also a major landowner. Just to give you an idea, the entire area that is now the Mirante neighborhood, the Alphaville Condominium, the entire entrance to Campina Grande in the BR 230 region, the area of ​​the new Sandra Cavalcante bus station. All of this belonged to Severino, who also owned cattle ranching businesses. He was also an industrial entrepreneur. He opened the first dairy in Campina Grande, Leiteria Celeste, whose equipment he imported from England. He also established the first sisal factory in Paraíba, the Caruá weaving mill. He also founded the Banco Auxiliar do Povo S.A. and was one of the founders of the important organization, the Campina Grande Commercial Association, which just celebrated its 95th anniversary and of which he became president, as well as of FIEP, the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraíba. In the 1930s, Severino was responsible for founding several unions. He was definitely a very intelligent man, despite lacking intellectual training. He was shrewd, with great business acumen. Without a doubt, one of the greatest entrepreneurs the city has ever seen. Politics was his greatest achievement. In the late 1940s, he joined the Libertador Party, along with José Américo de Almeida, a party he later presided over and for which he was elected state representative twice, each time receiving the most votes.
