When The Sirens Start

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Three in the morning and the room feels small Thoughts on repeat like they're writing on the wall Heart beating fast though the danger ain't there Looking for peace but I'm drowning in fear Everybody says, "Just calm down, you'll be fine" But the storm in my chest doesn't care about time I've read every promise, I've quoted every verse Still fighting shadows when the night gets worse Like a watchman staring through the dark unknown Like a sheep that wandered and can't find home Every road I run down leaves me asking why Lord, are You hearing when I cry? Then I hear a voice through the thunder and rain Not accusing me, not adding more shame Calling my name through the noise and the pain When the sirens start, when the pressure breaks When my heart is trembling and my whole world shakes You don't turn away, You don't close the door You're the Shepherd calling me home once more Come to Me, weary soul, lay your burdens down I have seen your tears, I have heard the sound When the sirens start and I don't know where to run I run to the Father, I run to the Son David cried out from the depths of despair Pouring out his soul because God was there Elijah ran exhausted beneath the tree Yet the Lord met him in his frailty Job sat broken in the ashes of loss Still holding to God through the pain and the cost Paul begged three times for the thorn to depart But grace held firm when it shattered his heart The battle looks different in every life Some fight sadness, some fear, some the war inside But Scripture never says the hurting are cast away The Lord stays near to the broken every day And I hear Your voice through the thunder and rain Not condemning me, not increasing the pain Calling my name through the noise and the strain When the sirens start, when the pressure breaks When my heart is trembling and my whole world shakes You don't turn away, You don't close the door You're the Shepherd calling me home once more Come to Me, weary soul, lay your burdens down I have seen your tears, I have heard the sound When the sirens start and I don't know where to run I run to the Father, I run to the Son Cast your cares upon Him, He cares for you His mercy is enough and His Word is true Though I walk through valleys, I will not fear The God of all comfort is standing here Peace that passes understanding, guard my mind Hold me when I cannot see and I am blind Not by strength of my own, not by power I bring But by Christ my Savior, my Priest and King The panic is not my master The fear is not my king The darkness is not eternal The grave has lost its sting My hope is not in feelings My hope is not in me My hope is in the risen Christ Who died and set me free When the sirens start, when the pressure breaks When my heart is trembling and my whole world shakes You don't turn away, You don't close the door You're the Shepherd calling me home once more Come to Me, weary soul, lay your burdens down I have seen your tears, I have heard the sound When the sirens start and I don't know where to run I run to the Father, I run to the Son The Lord is near the brokenhearted The Lord is close to those who cry The Lord is faithful in the valley And He will never leave our side When the sirens start... I hear the Shepherd's voice.
