I Found a Real Chicago Hot Dog in La Crosse… But the Fries Stole the Show

It does not need to. It serves Chicago-style comfort food, hot sandwiches, paninis, and fries that walked into the review with no warning and stole the entire show. I tried the Chicago Hot Dog, Italian Beef Sandwich, cheese steak, French fries, and The Center panini. 0:00 Press Break La Crosse 0:49 Press Break Menu 1:58 Chicago Dog Review 3:04 French Fries 3:54 Italian Beef Sandwich 6:08 Press Break Cheese Steak Sandwich 8:05 Panini Sandwich Recipes: The Center 9:30 Is Press Break La Crosse WI Worth Trying? Email: [email protected] The Chicago Hot Dog was exactly what I wanted it to be. Vienna beef hot dog. Poppy seed bun. The proper fixings. If you want a taste of Chicago without actually driving to Chicago, Press Break has you covered. The Italian Beef Sandwich was a solid take. The bun was dipped, held its integrity, and the hot peppers added the crisp bite needed to cut through the beef. It may not be a perfect Chicago clone, but it does the job well. The cheese steak is Press Break’s own version. It is not chopped steak, and the spinach, mushrooms, peppers, onions, cheese, and mayo make it more loaded than traditional. I would have preferred it without the extra spinach and mushrooms, but the cheese pull still delivered. The Center panini, their roast beef and cheddar sandwich, is a strong grab-and-go option. If you do not feel like making the Arby’s trip, this gives you the roast beef-and-cheddar fix in a better local package. But the fries were the real surprise. Whatever seasoning Press Break is using, keep doing it. Celery salt, pepper, food wizardry, I do not care. These were the most flavorful fries I have had to date, and they made the Chicago dog and Italian beef even better. Overall, Press Break is a solid La Crosse sandwich shop with fast, friendly service and food that surprised me. The Chicago dog is as advertised. The Italian beef is solid. The paninis are worth trying. And the fries deserve their own tiny parade down Rose Street.
