This Tuesday, May 12, ESSEC's Tuesday series welcomes Laurent Ulrich, Archbishop of Paris, Chems-Eddine Hafiz, Rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, and Michaël Lévy, National Rabbi and Chaplain for Students, for an interfaith roundtable discussion. Appointed Archbishop of Paris by Pope Francis in 2022, Laurent Ulrich is overseeing the national reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in 2024. He has notably distinguished himself by refusing to charge admission to the cathedral, ensuring that it remains a place of universal welcome and accessible to all. A lawyer by training, Chems-Eddine Hafiz became rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris in 2020. In response to the November 13, 2015 attacks, he founded the association "La Fraternité du Barreau" (The Fraternity of the Bar), which brings together lawyers from the three major monotheistic religions to promote interfaith dialogue. Michaël Lévy, the national chaplain for students, is committed to helping young people reconcile their Jewish life with university life on campus. He also studies the links between Judaism and ecology, exploring the interplay between spiritual traditions and environmental challenges. This roundtable discussion will be an opportunity to reflect together on what divides us, what unites us, and the richness of the diversity of beliefs for our society. At a time when interfaith dialogue is currently strained in France, the participants will explore the role that young people have to play in restoring a more peaceful and constructive exchange. LCP continues its partnership with the student association "Les Mardis de l'ESSEC" (ESSEC Tuesdays), aiming to broaden the audience for these invigorating debates on current political, economic, and social issues, led by France's oldest student forum. Since 1961, Les Mardis de l'ESSEC has organized free debates and conferences open to all, featuring prominent political, economic, and cultural figures, in front of an audience composed primarily of students. Guests are free to speak, but their ideas are systematically challenged, the goal being to empower everyone to develop informed opinions and critical thinking skills. At each event, two students present a comprehensive profile of the guest before opening the floor to an hour-long debate. The guest then answers questions posed by two students, focusing on current events. Finally, the audience has the opportunity to ask questions of the guest.
