I Asked an Ultrarunner for Advice... At 68 I'm Still Learning

After last week's treadmill experiment, I needed to get back to what really matters... easy long runs and good advice. So I headed to Sydney's iconic Centennial Park with ultrarunner Chris Jackson. Chris has run sub-3 for the marathon, completed over 30 marathons and ultra including UTMB - the Mecca in the Alps for crazy Ultra people, and featured in the excellent documentary The 100 Miler. But this wasn't about comparing PBs. It was about listening, laughing, complaining about the pace, and reminiscing about our lost dads. We talk about easy running, strength work, recovery, fueling, racing too often, and why sometimes the smartest training decision is the one that takes restraint. As someone who's completed 49 marathons, I don't mind admitting I still have plenty to learn. If you're training for any distance, I think you'll find something useful in this conversation. 🏃 Marathon 50 – The Long Return A couple of updates... • Steve Moneghetti is back running, but our planned run together has been postponed until after August when he returns from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. • Unfortunately the treadmill at the exercise physiology lab broke down before my scheduled VO₂ max test, so that episode will have to wait a little longer too. Thanks, as always, for following the journey towards Marathon #50.
