A task involving a long, arduous journey for trucks and a high level of exhaust emissions becomes a swift and efficient job when a material ropeway is used. The system was designed as a continuous-movement bicable ropeway. Zijin-Continental Gold Sucursal Colombia is developing the Buriticá gold mine in the northwest of Columbia, approximately 72 km from the city of Medellín. The area where the mine is located is mountainous and therefore logistically challenging. Reusable residues from the gold extraction process which are used in an underground backfill have to be taken from the bottom of the valley to the mouth of the mine at 1,700 m above sea level, thereby covering a difference in elevation of approximately 646 m.
