Shirakawago is a preserved village in the mountains of Gifu, where you can see traditional Japanese gassho style farmhouses with triangular roofs. It's a gorgeous, historic village surrounded by nature, with rice fields, temples, shrines, a relaxing river, restaurants and cafes. I went on a day trip by bus from Takayama (50 mins). You can also go there by bus from Kanazawa. It's an easy half day trip. The video shows where to get tickets at the Nohi Bus Terminal, as well as practical tips like how to take the bus to the observation point for a view of the village, how long you need, where to eat, how crowded it is and what there is to do. It's also gorgeous in the snow if you go in winter!
