More than a feeling, the Apostle Paul defines love as an action born of a relationship with God. Love is the foundation of the Christian faith, making all spiritual gifts meaningful. We can have skills, knowledge, perfect faith, or the willingness to die, but without love, all of these are worthless before God (1-3). In a world that values ​​achievement, we are often tempted to pursue things that appear outwardly great. We forget that the essence of life as a follower of Christ is love. But what kind of love is meant? Love means patience and kindness. A person with love will not envy, be arrogant, seek his own advantage, be easily angered, or keep records of others' wrongs; instead, he will rejoice with the truth (4-6). Love is Christ's character expressed in gentleness, trust, hope, and patience (7). Love is also the strength that unites the body of Christ. Without love, we can argue and disagree like children. However, when love is the foundation of relationships, we become mature Christians and know one another in Christ's love (9-12). Paul emphasizes that love never fails (8). When believers often prioritize prophecy, speaking in tongues, and knowledge, these are all temporary and will pass away. What is greatest and will remain is love (13). What about us, is love our motivation in speaking, acting, and serving? Or, do we love because we are afraid of rejection or to be admired? Ask God to fill our hearts with His never-ending love. Because, in love, we know who God is, as well as who we are and who we are before Him. May we continue to grow together in the love of Christ. With unfailing love, we reflect God to the world. [SLM]
