People who don't learn from experience and keep repeating the same mistakes are often compared to donkeys. The Apostle Paul exhorted the Corinthians to learn from the mistakes of their ancestors (6-11). Paul gave examples of how Israel, God's people and cared for by God (1-4), fell into various errors and sins. Paul's emphasis here is that Israel's past mistakes should serve as an example for the Corinthians (6, 11), so that they would not fall into the same pitfalls or mistakes. We live in a time filled with trials (10:13). If we observe the conditions around us, the challenges to our faith may not be much different from those of the early church. The context and culture of the challenges may be different, but the essence is sinful behavior that goes against God and His will. How do we face these challenges? Learn from the Bible, which is God's word, including learning from the past failures of the Israelites so that we, as His people today, will not repeat those mistakes. We need to ask ourselves: Am I still living like them? We too can face today's challenges by adhering to the principles Paul counseled the Corinthians. That principle is that whatever we do must always aim for the glory of God (10:31). Therefore, we must always ask: Do my actions glorify God? How can I glorify God today? Let us be thankful that we have the examples and warnings we need so that we don't fall into the same hole. Pray that we can always glorify God in all our thoughts, plans, words and deeds. [ABL]
