A thin endometrium is defined as not reaching a certain size, which correlates with the likelihood of pregnancy. The endometrium undergoes certain changes throughout the menstrual cycle. To put it simply, it initially grows, and during the first phase, before ovulation, it expands. This is the proliferative phase. At the time of implantation, it has been statistically proven that pregnancy is more likely to occur when the endometrium reaches a thickness of at least 7 mm. When this does not occur, the endometrium is considered thin. Are there ways to build it up? The thing is, the endometrium isn't easy to work with. First of all, you need to understand that it's hormone-dependent tissue, meaning it's a target for hormones. And it grows under the influence of certain hormones. Therefore, the first thing you can do is look for any hormonal dysregulation that's preventing the endometrium from growing. That's one option. The second option—the most concerning—is when the basal layer of the endometrium is damaged. This layer is made up of stem cells that give rise to the functional layer, which is then implanted and is constantly shed during menstruation. So, if this basal layer of stem cells is damaged, and the damage is widespread, meaning that most of the uterus is damaged, which will prevent any growth at all or will result in a thin endometrium, this is a very serious problem. Currently, there are no ways to restore the basal layer. Yes, they're trying cavitation, magnets, and a lot of physiotherapy, but there's no data to support their effectiveness. Therefore, the focus should be more on preserving the endometrium. That is, preventing interventions: surgery, curettage, unnecessary hysteroscopies, and biopsies.
