The Haredim (Hebrew: חרדים) (transliterated: Haredim), also known as ultra-Orthodox Jews, or those who fear God, are Orthodox Jews whose religious practice is especially devout. Haredim affirm, as does all Orthodox Judaism, that the Torah given by God at Mount Sinai, with its respective laws, constitutes the "instruction manual for the world." In other words, the Torah is the code that fundamentally permits the harmonious behavior of Creation and its creatures, the regulation of its laws and principles, and the methods that will lead each individual to unite with God in enjoying infinite delight, the ultimate goal of the creation of the world. However, although other Orthodox Jewish groups (whether Hasidic or Modern Orthodox) accept this affirmation, there are differences among all groups regarding behavior in non-legal spheres; That is, in the realm of individual and collective worldview, which is not regulated by the Torah. Haredim tend to live outside the secular societies that surround them, including Jewish ones, because they seek to put biblical precepts into practice in a non-hostile environment. Today, they have a strong presence in Israel, where they have their own neighborhoods (and even cities), political parties, businesses, and schools. Haredi groups also exist in many Jewish communities in the Diaspora, particularly in the United States and Western Europe. Haredim have their own newspapers, the most important of which is Hamodia ("The Announcer"). Since the late 19th century, the Israeli Haredi sector has partially rejected Western "modernity," both in terms of customs and ideology. However, this position is not unanimous in the Haredi world. For example, those from the United States have a more inclusive vision of modernity than that prevailing among Israelis. Jewish women cover their heads out of custom, but not because of a law that requires it. Nor is there a law that requires Jewish women to shave their heads or wear wigs.
