Maiden Falls, The Beautiful Hike that Wants to Kill You

Maiden Falls (sometimes called Indian Maiden Falls), is one of the most striking features of West Clear Creek Wilderness. The hike there is amazing and treacherous, and one of our absolute favorites. We like to backpack to the creek so we can spend a whole day going to the falls then back to camp. There's about a half dozen campsites along the creek portion of the trail. The trail starts at the edge of a canyon, and descends about 1700 feet for the two mile hike to the creek. Once at the creek, hang a left to go upstream for a couple miles to get to the falls. Even though it's only a couple miles, it takes what seems like forever. There are endless stream crossings, a few swims, and there is pretty much no trail when you are at the creek. The dangers of this adventure are many, including rattlesnakes, mountain lions, bears, giant spiders, the extreme heat of the sun, the extreme cold of the water, and drowning. There's also about 1000 places to fall and hurt yourself. My official advice is don't go. But if you do, watch this video first!
