Fossil Creek Arizona | How do you get there?
Fossil Creek Falls is a popular spot in Arizona to cool off in the hotter months, BUT it isn't as easy to get to as most people make it seem. Let's go over everything you need to know: How to get there: You will NOT have reception and both apple and google maps are not going to be a reliable source of navigation. ENSURE that you know which route you will be taking and download maps ahead of time to make sure you don't mistakenly take a wrong turn. If you choose to go to the west entrance, I would advise ensuring you have a high clearance vehicle and prepare to spend well over an hour driving both to and from the main parking areas once you turn off highway 260. On top of that, once you do arrive at your parking area, to get to either trail head (Flume Road or Fossil Creek Falls), you will be walking along a gravel road for anywhere from .2-3.5 miles, depending on which lot you get. I do not have personal experience as of yet entering from the east entrance via Bob Bear Trail, but my research says that it is far easier to access and involves minimal gravel. The nearby town of Strawberry also offers some fun entertainment so you're not too far from civilization which can't be said for the west side. What to bring: Water shoes, LOTS of water, food, swimsuit, water proof phone case, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a small trash bag to pack out all your trash! How long will you be there: ALL DAY! We left Phoenix at 6 am and did not get back home until 10 pm. Ensure you leave the creek with plenty of sunlight left because you do not want to be stuck out in the middle of the wilderness with no reception and no light... Aside from the well needed caution when planning a trip to Fossil Creek, you will have a wonderful time if you know what you're in for ahead of time. Keep wandering xo Haley
