In the first year of the extension (923), it was relocated from Chikuzen Oita Shrine (Honami Shrine). After its founding, it was deeply revered by people from all over Asano as a place of prayer, and also played an important role as a gateway to exchanges with other countries. During the mid-Kamakura period, during the Mongol invasion, a so-called kamikaze blew and the city overcame unprecedented difficulties. It is also famous as a god of warding off evil spirits and good luck. Later generations included Takauji Ashikaga, Yoshitaka Ouchi, Takakage Kobayakawa, and Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Hakozaki Shrine flourished as famous military commanders from history visited the shrine and worshiped the divine virtues of Hachiman Omikami, a deity known for his military exploits and cultural achievements. During the Edo period, Nagamasa Kuroda, the first lord of the Fukuoka domain, and subsequent lords of the domain never neglected to revere it. Since the Meiji era, it has been with Japan aiming to become a modern nation, and in the same year, it was designated as Kanpei Chusha, In the 3rd year of Taisho, it was promoted to the status of Kanpei Taisha, and in recent years, it has gained reverence from all over the country.
