16 Years Ago: The Games of 2010! How Many Did You Play?

16 years ago, the decade turned over and we started the 2010s! In this video, we take a look at 100 games that were released that year. The big 3 home platforms at the time were the Wii, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. All 3 consoles were in their middle age, with all of them around reaching the 4-5 year mark. Developers were seasoned and had gotten used to the hardware - and were really starting to produce some amazing titles. As expected, franchises were doing well. Entering their second installments were newer franchises like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Battlefield Bad Company and Dead Rising - all of which were thriving. Some unexpected sequels came in the form of Just Cause 2, Mafia II and Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days - while other established franchises marched on - a 3rd God of War, a 5th Gran Turismo and a third Fable game were tearing up the sales charts. Bungie gave us their last work on the Halo series with Halo: Reach, and Rock Band 3 was still tearing up the charts. And after over a decade, we finally got a new Starcraft game! Some new franchises joined - like Cavia's Nier, id Software's Rage, Metro: 2033 and of course - the new-ish Red Dead Redemption. Portables were still going strong; Nintendo's DS was getting the usual Pokemon love, as well as another Professor Layton game. Meanwhile, Sony's PSP received the amazing God of War: Ghost of Sparta and Metal Gear Peacewalker games ; truly impressive for a portable gaming system! We also started to see some real traction with the indie low-fi pixel art movement - with titles like Cave Story and Mega Man 10 appealing to gamer nostalgia by throwing back to older days. Would this pixel art movement just be a passing fad? Time would tell... All in all, a really great year for gamers, no matter what platform you were on! (My personal favorite game of 2010? The reboot of "Splatterhouse".
