I left the Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed specialized trading company I joined as a new graduate in July. At the invitation of an acquaintance, I entered the world of entertainment. One day, a customer at the bar (the branch manager of a certain city bank) said to me in a drunken voice, "Maybe you'd be good at a publishing company?" This prompted me to take a mid-career recruitment exam for the publishing industry. I applied to six publishing companies listed in the job listings section of the Sunday edition of the Asahi Shimbun, which I bought at a train station kiosk, and received job offers from five of them. In November 1990, I joined the commercial industry as an editor. For some reason, I chose the company I knew the least about. I spent a year and a half in the editorial department of a monthly specialized magazine that reports on and analyzes commercial facilities, and eight years in the editorial department of a monthly specialized magazine for the apparel industry. I left the company in March 2000 and went independent as a planner in the distribution industry. However, my attempts to start my own business failed, and I once again began looking for a new job. After six months in the editorial department of the recruitment advertising company that picked him up, he joined Businesssha in May 2002. He was assigned to the book editorial department. Until then, he had had a lackluster image of books as a product, but once he realized that they offered more freedom than magazines, he began to enjoy his work.
