Transatlantic Lecture: The Future of Innovation Policy in the Era of Industrial Strategy

About the series: At present, policymakers across the transatlantic alliance have begun to reconfigure economic policies and tools towards inter alia economic competitiveness, the reindustrialisation of critical sectors and increasing domestic manufacturing capacity, particularly in advanced technologies ranging from AI, semiconductors to quantum computation. In considering this rapid progression, there are renewed discussion in both academic and policy circles about a field known as innovation policy. Defined by (Edler and Georghious 2007): “All public measures to induce innovations and/or speed up diffusion of innovations through increasing the demand for innovation, defining new functional requirements for products and services or better articulating demand.” In navigating this complex economic landscape, and the resurgence of this concept in transatlantic economic discourse, we will discuss with an array of experts and institutional actors about how to actualise this concept, through public policy, in critical sectors– the sectors that will power the transatlantic innovation economy.
