Patrocinio Madonna della Scala: al via l’anno giubilare a Massafra

The community of Massafra celebrates the Solemnity of the Patronage of Our Lady of the Stairs with the official opening of the Jubilee Year, which will begin on Friday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. with a solemn Eucharistic celebration at the diocesan shrine. The event, presided over by Bishop Sabino Iannuzzi of the Diocese of Castellaneta, marks the historic milestone of the 250th anniversary of the patronage (1776-2026). It will be a moment of profound devotion that will engage faithful and pilgrims in a year-long journey of spiritual reflection. The religious program, coordinated by Rector Don Antonino Pensabene with the support of the rectory team, will begin on February 20th. The solemn liturgy will begin in the sanctuary square and then continue with the rite of the opening of the Holy Door, symbolizing a year of grace and rebirth for the entire diocese. On the opening day, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a special postmark featuring the Jubilee logo will be held in the sanctuary square. The rector emphasized that this event is not merely a formal occasion, but an opportunity to rediscover the meaning of being children of God through the bond with our patron saint. The celebrations are preceded by a triduum of preparation. On Wednesday, February 18th, coinciding with Ash Wednesday, Eucharistic adoration is scheduled for 7:00 PM. On Thursday, February 19th, the rosary will be held at 4:30 PM and Mass at 5:00 PM. On February 20th, in addition to the 11:00 AM service, the sanctuary will host celebrations at 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Throughout the Jubilee period, the sanctuary will observe the following opening hours: mornings from 8:00 AM to 12:45 PM and afternoons from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Numerous events and distinguished guests are planned who, over the course of the months, will explore the artistic and spiritual value of the Madonna della Scala fresco.
