Starting Historical Sewing? A Chat With Historical Fashion Sewist & Enthusiast V.Birchwood
I love history. I love dress history and would love to one day be a dress historian. First I must figure out how to get started with historical sewing. Historical fashion and historical costuming take years to master, but everyone was at one point a beginner. I got to sit down with historical fashion enthusiast @VBirchwood who hand sews all of her own historical garments and dresses in historical fashion daily. She answered all of my questions about how to get started with sewing historical fashions, and wearing historical clothing, or historybounding. Because she wears historical fashions daily it is not historical costuming for her but just clothing, and how she feels her most authentic self which made for a very interesting conversation. Where to start, how to research historical garments?, where to buy sewing supplies? these are just a few of the questions she answers for me and how fun and insightful it was. I hope you enjoy the interview and it inspires you to try something in the new year that frightens you.
