The Craziest Amtrak Lashup I've Ever Seen
So I went out for Amtrak 51 on this morning hoping for a good Beech Grove move. I waited in Chicago Heights for a bit before 51 started getting close, and I moved to Dyer. However, shortly after I got there, 51 stopped near Creston, IN, due to the lead engine (518 at this point) having issues. The Beech Grove move was on the front and the regular Cardinal section was on the back. For whatever reason, Beech Grove put 1 engine and an NPCU on the rear of the BG consist. I had wanted to leave the consist a surprise, but after waiting for a long time, I finally caved and checked to see what it was. It turned out to be carrying a P32AC-DM returning to the Northeast after having work done at Beech Grove. Since I had never filmed one of these before, I was determined to wait for it. After 2 hours, it was decided to reverse the train south of Lowell to the next siding to rearrange the consist. The Cardinal section was moved to the front of the train, while the Beech Grove section was moved to the back. Because of this, now 518 and 79 were smack dab in the middle of the train, while 705 and 90250 were at the rear, with 90250 facing long hood out. Easily the weirdest and craziest Amtrak consist I've ever seen.
