Cape Wrath to Land's End, Part17
After a night at the excellent Westacott Farm Campsite West of Bideford, I enjoy being back on the Atlantic Coast. I find the going a bit harder than expected (seems to be a common thing on the South West Coast Path from what I've read/watched!). I meet up with another long distance walker and we share the rest of the day walking the path together and chatting constantly so that the miles seem to fly past under clearing skies. I pitch-up in the evening at Stoke Barton Farm Campsite, sharing a small field with several other backpackers. In the morning I enjoy walking under a glorious blue sky, the ocean stretched ahead reflecting the same glorious blue. This sets me up for a great walk down into Cornwall and finishing at Bude. I enjoy the ups and downs rather than dread them, though at the back of my mind am wary of screwing it all up at this late stage in the walk to Land's End! From Bude the day starts gently but the wind picks up and sharp squalls of heavy rain return - another storm and weather warning ahead - another July 2023 weekend in Cornwall! I get to Boscastle, restock, then shortly after arrive at Little Clifden Campsite - enjoying a calm evening before the storm. The last day on this bit of the vlog turns into one of the biggest tests of my resolve, I try my best to remain positive but by the time I get to Padstow I am soaked through and shivering, my 3-layer goretex has become futile, my tent is no longer coping with the wet ground and I really need to dig deep. Weather makes such a difference.
