And almost zero crime for over 400 years. This is a real story. This is Shani Shingnapur, a village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. So what is the story behind this? According to history there was a massive flood that washed through the village. That night Lord Shani appeared in the shepherd's dream. He revealed that the slab was his idol. Lord Shani told the villagers in their dreams you do not need to put any doors on your homes. I will protect you. From that day the villagers removed all their doors. And they have never put them back. Shani Shingnapur is now a vibrant village with more than 4000 people. All the village residences and shops still lack locks and doors. Even jewellery and money are not kept in lockers. The village's local shops and the post office also lack doors. In 2011 UCO Bank opened India's first lockless bank branch in Shani Shingnapur.
