Pachnące kwiaty na balkon i taras
There are many wonderful plants that bloom in early spring that can decorate balconies or terraces. But some, besides being incredibly decorative, also smell wonderful! And these plants will be the subject of today's episode of the "Balconies and Terraces" series. We invite you! 🦋 Plants we plant in pots can be not only beautiful but also wonderfully fragrant. And there are quite a few of them. Just stroll through a plant store and follow your nose, not what you see. Sometimes even small, even inconspicuous flowers can delight with their fragrance. Some specimens are so intensely fragrant that you can smell them from afar. This is the case with hyacinths, for example. When grown indoors, they sometimes smell too intensely, requiring us to take them out of the room where we sleep. But in the garden, this is no longer a problem. Here, the scent of hyacinths is very pleasant. And we can enjoy it from March to the end of April. First, we can purchase propagated bulbs of colorful hyacinths in stores or propagate them ourselves if we planted them in the garden or in pots in the fall. Then, hyacinths begin to bloom in our gardens and flower beds. If the weather is nice—not too cold, and especially not too hot—we can enjoy the beauty and fragrance of hyacinths for about 2-3 weeks. A single plant, placed in a decorative basket, for example, is enough to inhale the wonderful fragrance of these plants. If we've already prepared an arrangement of pansies and daffodils, we can plant a hyacinth among them, so the pot is not only colorful but also fragrant. In fact, I had a hyacinth growing in my window box before, but it was the first to bloom. So, I'll plant another one here. A store-bought hyacinth bulb should be planted at the same depth it was growing in its commercial pot; it should protrude slightly above the soil surface. Therefore, there's no need to dig it in deeply. Then, after flowering, all the bulbs, if possible, can be transplanted to a flower bed or another commercial pot to enjoy their blooms the following year. The yellow, small-flowered daffodils of the Tete-a-Tete variety, which we often call miniature daffodils, are not scented. However, there are daffodils that have a very intense fragrance and are often called scented daffodils in stores. This is an example of such flowers. Due to the producers' efforts, they currently have a dwarf, low-growing form, blooming practically at the bulb, and their stems will certainly lengthen over time. I'll use them to create a colorful arrangement of spring blooms that will have the scent of these tiny daffodils. Two bulbs are enough to delight in their pleasant fragrance on a terrace or balcony. They'll be joined by the cheerful yellow daffodils I mentioned earlier, in the Tete-a-Tete variety, and white forget-me-nots. Now, you can buy beautiful seedlings of these delicate-flowered plants in stores, not only in the traditional blue, but also in pink and white. A small-flowered pansy with yellow petals and a large-flowered pansy with much larger, yellow-purple petals will also be included in a white wooden box. There's also room for a snow-white pansy. These plants have flowers in every color of the rainbow, and depending on the color you choose, you can match it to almost any arrangement of cheerfully blooming plants heralding spring. The final yellow pansy seedling will be placed on the front of the pot, and you're done. A delicate, white-yellow, fragrant plant decoration can be placed in its final location. Over time, the pansies will grow beautifully and take the place of the daffodils, which fade more quickly. Carnations are another fragrant plant that will look great on our balconies and terraces. Their flowers come in a variety of colors, but be warned: not all of them are fragrant. So, if you want fragrant carnations, it's worth smelling each seedling when choosing them in the store. White carnations are the most fragrant. They don't have as intense a scent as hyacinths, so a seedling placed in a decorative pot or basket can also be placed indoors. However, these plants will last longer and bloom longer outdoors, so it's worth finding a spot for them on a balcony or terrace. My two carnation seedlings with white, fragrant flowers will go in a tall white pot.
