V/Lines Last Locomotive Hauled Passenger Train
The last regularly scheduled locomotive hauled services on V/Lines Victorian network currently operate between Melbournes Southern Cross station, and Swan Hill, 345 km's north west of Melbourne. The train running out through Sunbury, Kyneton, Castlemaine, Bendigo and Kerang, before reaching Swan Hill. Currently there are 2 return services a day. The trains are hauled by "N Class" loco's, built for passenger duties by Clyde Engineering ( under license from EMD ) in the early 1980's. They are 2500 hp and are fitted with 12-645E3B or C engines. More details can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V/Line_... Originally 25 units were built, N451 - N475, but by the time most of these scenes were shot, some had found their way into temporary storage at Geelong, or were on hire to Southern ShortHaul Railroad for freight workings. So due to the fact the operating pool had shrunk, a lot of the same units make appearances in the scenes shown.
