DALLAS 5 ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE/ GAS EXPLOSION.

On Thursday May 28, 2026, Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a reported gas leak at 409 E. 9th Street in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. Officials said an explosion occurred while fire crews were investigating the leak, with flames erupting just minutes after firefighters arrived on scene. The incident quickly escalated into a large multi-alarm response, eventually being upgraded to a five-alarm fire as crews battled heavy fire conditions and searched for victims. Authorities confirmed multiple people were transported to local hospitals with injuries. Officials have also confirmed multiple fatalities in connection to the explosion and fire. Search and recovery operations remain ongoing as emergency crews continue working through the debris looking for additional possible victims. Preliminary information indicates a construction crew working near the building may have accidentally struck a gas line prior to the explosion. Officials stated that 23 residents were believed to be living in the building, with several individuals still unaccounted for as of Thursday evening. A reunification center has been established at W. H. Adamson High School for displaced residents and family members. A triage and staging area for injured patients has also been set up at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. The cause of the incident remains under investigation by local and federal authorities.
