On Tuesday afternoon, things go terribly wrong on the heathland along the Planken Wambuisweg between Otterlo and Ede. At around 2:00 PM, a fire breaks out on a military training ground operated by the Dutch Ministry of Defence… and because of the dry conditions and strong winds, the flames spread at an alarming speed. 🌬️🔥 ⚠️ At several moments, the fire appears dangerously close to spreading into the surrounding forest… But firefighters from Brandweer Lunteren manage to stop the flames just in time before the wildfire reaches the trees. 😳🚒🌲 🚨 Within minutes, the incident is scaled up to a MAJOR WILDFIRE emergency. Fire departments from across the region are called in to help bring the massive blaze under control. Brandweer Lunteren also responds urgently to assist in battling this large-scale wildfire. 🚒 🔥 The fire eventually spreads across multiple hectares of heathland and natural terrain. Because of the extreme drought and powerful winds, conditions continue changing throughout the operation. ⚠️ According to several reports, the wildfire may have started during a military exercise on the Defence training grounds. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee is investigating the exact cause of the fire. 🚒 Dozens of emergency services work together to contain the flames and prevent further spread. In addition to fire crews, police units, ambulances and hazardous materials specialists are also present at the scene. 💨 Due to the enormous smoke development, the fire can be seen from a great distance.
