A Shelter Where No One Calls My Name was written for one scene: a shelter of wood and woven reeds beside a rain-dark river, two canoes pulled onto the gravel, and a small fire burning after someone has gone. Above the far trees, a crescent moon hangs in the clouds. Nothing answers the shore except water. A slow Native American flute moves beside tender violin and cello, with a little wind in the distance. I made this as Native American flute music for grief and loss, not to explain a farewell, only to stay near the space it leaves behind. The flute and strings remain close to the quiet after a goodbye, when a room feels larger than it should. The pauses are long. There is no rhythm to follow, only the breath of the flute, the bow passing over strings, and imagined water between notes. The music never rises above the scene. It stays close to firelight on wet stones, paddles, and the woven doorway. Leave it on for an evening meditation, beside a journal, or under a few late pages. When sleep comes slowly, let the flute, violin, and cello remain low through the night. It can also sit gently in the background while you read or work, without asking for your attention. The river keeps moving. The canoes do not. Sit with what remains.
