Carrying Fire Through the Quiet Valley began with one view: amber trees around a motionless lake, thin cloud caught between the ridges, and mountains held upside down in the water. There is no fire in the picture. I imagined it as the warmth someone keeps after walking away from a place that mattered. That is the small scene I kept returning to while writing. The Native American flute arrives first. Violin and cello stay close behind, with no percussion and no steady beat. I left room between the notes so the scene could breathe, like the clear spaces that open between the reflected trees. I wrote this as Native American flute music for meditation, though it also belongs beside a late book, a desk lamp, or a page of unfinished work. The calm flute and cello can stay in the background while you read, write, or study. Later, when the house has settled, the gentle flute and strings can be kept low for bedtime or deep rest. The water is still, but the autumn slopes around it hold changing color and passing cloud. I wanted the music to keep that contrast: a calm surface, movement high above it. On nights when grief is in the room and words do not fit, this can simply stay beside you. Let the reflected ridges keep the last thought for a while.
