Foton is launching a complete portfolio of electric products in Brazil. We were invited by the brand to get a close look at these new releases and even experience a day of real-world operation with them. The five vehicles we tested are fully electric and are entering the market to compete strongly with national brands, serving different segments and applications: the 2.5-ton e-Wonder minitruck, the 2.9-ton e-View Connect van, the 3.5-ton e-View Grand, the 3.5-ton e-Toano Pro, and the e-Aumark L7X, which comes in 6, 9, and 12-ton versions. During the test drive offered by Foton, we drove two vehicles: the e-View Grand van and the e-Connect van. The test involved charging the vehicles at a distribution center and then unloading them at another location. While the e-View Grand offers slightly more range and cargo capacity, the e-View Connect is simpler but extremely functional. The regenerative braking system works very well on the road – whether in urban areas or faster, like highway access roads. The Chinese automaker, number 1 in commercial vehicles in the world, believes that the electric vehicle market is booming and this is a good time to invest in this segment, which has been receiving many technological advances and even has government support, subsidies, traffic flexibilities, etc. Even the cost-benefit of the business has been pointed out as positive, since the value of the vehicles has fallen and what used to take 5 years to pay off, now pays off in 2 and a half years.
