Can we save on management fees by mimicking equity funds? Many investors turn to copycat investing, saying, "Instead of paying fund management fees, I'll buy the same stocks with my own account." In our new article, we've examined this very issue. We selected the 5 most successful equity-intensive funds of the last 5 years and created virtual portfolios that perfectly replicate the portfolios of these funds based on their KAP (Public Disclosure Platform) announcements. Taking into account transaction costs, bid-ask spreads, and commissions, we compared these copycat portfolios with the original funds.
