You will also learn how to perform the inverse transformation, that is, how to convert from fractional to decimal. 1) Converting decimal numbers to decimal fractions The transformation is performed in two steps. The first step is to find the numerator of the fraction. This is simply the decimal number minus the decimal point. The decimal number is thus transformed into a whole number; this is the numerator of the fraction. The second step is to find the denominator. The denominator depends on the rank of the last digit of the decimal number. If the last digit is in the tenths place, the denominator is 10. If it is in the hundredths place, the denominator is 100. And so on. The denominator increases 10 times each time you move one column to the right in the numbering table. This gives you the fractional representation of the decimal number. 2) Converting decimal fractions to decimal numbers The transformation is performed in two steps. The first step is to count the number of zeros in the denominator. This number is important because it determines the position of the decimal point within the decimal number. The second step is to convert the numerator to a decimal number. To do this, place a decimal point after the numerator and move this decimal point up as many places as there are zeros in the denominator. This gives the decimal form of the decimal fraction.
