What began as a routine fire alarm at midday escalated into a complex emergency situation that wasn't resolved until the evening. Escalation after suspected argument Around noon on Wednesday, emergency services were called to a burning apartment building. According to initial, unconfirmed media reports, the incident was preceded by a heated argument among the tenants. During this argument, a disgruntled resident allegedly used incendiary devices, igniting the fire, which quickly spread to the entire roof. There was also suspicion that the individual may have threatened to use further explosives. During the fire, a noticeable deflagration occurred inside the building. Firefighters suspend firefighting efforts due to hazardous situation Because the suspected arsonist remained entrenched inside the burning and smoke-filled building, and a significant risk to the emergency responders could not be ruled out, the fire department had to temporarily suspend its active firefighting efforts entirely. The scene was subsequently cordoned off by over 100 police officers. For safety reasons, authorities ordered the evacuation of an estimated 150 residents from the surrounding buildings. Special Operations Unit (SEK) ends threat A special operations unit (SEK) was called in to manage the situation. In the afternoon, the special forces managed to establish contact with the man inside the building. According to reports, the man eventually left the house on his own, whereupon he was taken into custody by officers at the scene. Only after his arrest could the fire department fully resume firefighting operations and completely extinguish the blaze in the completely destroyed roof structure. According to initial reports from emergency services, there were several people injured in the incident (media reports indicate at least one to four victims) who required medical attention. The criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation into the exact cause of the fire, the sequence of events, and the legal implications.
