In Search of Arthur J. Prescott | Visiting the Grave of a Newton Falls Legend

Who was Arthur J. Prescott, and why does his name still hold such significance at Newton Falls Schools? Join us as we travel to Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman, Ohio, to locate the final resting place of Arthur J. Prescott, one of the most influential educators in the history of the Newton Falls School District. Arthur J. Prescott was much more than an educator. He served Newton Falls Schools as an English teacher, the district's first guidance counselor, an assistant football coach, yearbook advisor, and acting superintendent during the 1966-1967 school year. He was also the author of the Newton Falls Alma Mater, which first appeared in 1953. The National Honor Society was founded on March 1, 1921, and the Newton Falls Chapter of the National Honor Society was chartered on April 10, 1957, as Charter Number 6510 with eight founding inductee members. In 1969, the chapter was renamed the Arthur J. Prescott Chapter of the National Honor Society in recognition of his tremendous contributions to the school district and community. Arthur Joseph Prescott was born on September 8, 1918, and passed away on June 8, 1968, at only 49 years old. He is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman, Ohio.
