The National Gallery in London is dedicating its first-ever solo exhibition to the painter Francisco de Zurbarán, one of the great masters of 17th-century Spanish painting. Fifty works from various international museums, including the Prado Museum, are on display. Zurbarán embodies religiosity and realism. His work features figures of great volume, with an almost sculptural dimension, contrasts of light and shadow, and a rich palette of colors. According to the exhibition's curator, Daniel Sobrino Ralston, "Zurbarán is a painter who is relevant to almost the entire history of art, because he possesses a religious sensibility and at the same time is deeply interested in the small details of everyday life."
